The InterCity West Coast franchise has been operated by Virgin Trains since March 1997. The franchise, which includes long-distance services operating on the West Coast Main Line, was intended to run for twenty years but has been extended – without competition – by the Department for Transport. Virgin Trains is 49% owned by Stagecoach Group. Virgin and Stagecoach also jointly operate the InterCity East Coast (Virgin Trains East Coast) franchise, while Stagecoach Group also operates the East Midlands Trains franchise alone. So much for competition between operators!
• Do you use the Virgin Trains service regularly?
• Do you believe it should be returned to public hands as part of a re-unified national rail network run for people not profit?
• Then, why not start a campaign building up to the franchise end in November 2016?
Bring Back British Rail will support you by promoting your campaign’s details on this website and putting you in touch with other local activists via our Facebook, Twitter and Riseup communities. Please get in touch on the email address below!
