I am of the generation that remembers British Rail. It was not perfect, but during the Conservative years it was led by politicians who severely starved it of investment.

Christopher Lance, LeedsEast Coast mainline provides an excellent service as a publicly owned company. Don’t flog off this franchise to some commercial outfit.

Paul Campbell, LondonThe privatisation of the UK’s rail network has not led to lower fares and better service. Rail companies put shareholders’ dividends before fare-paying customers. BBBR.
N Zaidi, BrightonSevere lack of peak time trains (e.g. back/forth Brighton) and also lack of scheduling with local bus services, makes getting to work time-consuming, expensive and awful.
