Martin Cooper, Whitley BayState-owned railways operate efficiently in Europe. Why should our railways be run for private profits? The railways are a service to the whole community.
David Sterratt, EdinburghBR cost taxpayers about a third of what the privatised railway does now and was cheaper for passengers too. Nationalise franchises when they expire for greater efficiency.
AnonymousThe price of train tickets is honestly ridiculous. I saw an old British Rail advert from 1982 that said ‘Anytime Return London – Manchester only £11’. Now it’s about £100!
Pauline Pallavicini, BirminghamAt least it would be accountable to the voter/user. London Midland is a service for anyone but the paying passenger.
Rosemary Morgan, BirminghamOur rail network should be seamless and better regulated for the benefit of the customers, not shareholders.

Bring Back British Rail is coordinated from Glasgow by Ellie Harrison, with the help of a small network of volunteers around the UK.
The campaign operates as a ‘non-charitable campaigning body’ and so is free to carry out political activity and act as a pressure group.
It aims to be a completely autonomous and transparent passenger-led organisation, which has no direct affiliation with any political parties.
