Ternan Macnamara, ThirskThe first experiment in private management of transport in this country ran for 100years – the turnpike system. It ended because it was useless and expensive.
Alan Martin, LiverpoolRail and all transport should be a public service, publicly owned and controlled, not the profit making toy of the private sector.
Bernie Ward, TorquayIf the railways are publicly owned there is always someone to actually take responsibility, otherwise each privately owned section passes the buck.
Rob Jones, SheffieldI no longer use the rail system. The current set-up seems to have been designed to create the maximum amount of chaos and the minimum level of accountability.

Great to see Liverpool City Region Combined Authority agree plans to take Merseyrail back into public ownership when the Serco/Transport UK contract ends in 2028 👏🚆 But there's still a big loophole in the #RailwaysBill meaning a future Mayor could easily re-privatise it 🤦♂️
