The government privatised the profit and nationalised the debt.
The current system just isn’t working – except for shareholders.
The private railway is not more efficient. It is interested only in the bottom line, not providing any kind of a service.
Many other advanced nations have state-run railways. Why can’t we? Re-nationalisation would save many of the ills that currently beset our railways.
The government interferes in things it shouldn’t, but not in things they should. Bring back British Rail!

Privatizing has buggered up the electricity industry, the gas industry, the water industry and the waste disposal industry too. Some things should be considered a service and run to provide just that at an economic cost not a way of milking the end users.
