It should never have been privatised. Public utilities should be just that: of use to the public, not to hedge funds.
We simply must re-nationalise to guarantee fair fares for all.
It is currently cheaper for me to drive or even fly than it is for me to catch the train.
I lived in the UK until a month ago, and East Coast offers a much better service than all the other rail operators. I suspect it’s because it’s government-run, as BR was.
British Rail had better timetables. The prices were cheaper which allowed more people to use trains in off peak times. The service was brilliant..

Privatizing has buggered up the electricity industry, the gas industry, the water industry and the waste disposal industry too. Some things should be considered a service and run to provide just that at an economic cost not a way of milking the end users.
