We should look to countries like Japan, Germany and France for ideas on how to run our railways.
Ian Gaynor-Kirk, FalkirkI note the escalating subsidy and fares post privatisation. It was a bad idea and did not introduce true competition. East Coast is actually paying money to the Treasury.
Joyce Moore, LeicesterA fully integrated rail system – serving the whole of the country – can only be achieved with state control and ownership.
Philip Jones, FlintBritish Rail had its faults but it was run for the benefit of great Britain not foreign conglomerates.
Paula Du Spearman, RedhillOpen up the closed lines and bring back the platelayers. Put railway people in a real uniform.
Michael Futers, DerbyInstead of senseless profit-driven competition we want safe, reliable public transport.

Bring Back British Rail is coordinated from Glasgow by Ellie Harrison, with the help of a small network of volunteers around the UK.
The campaign operates as a ‘non-charitable campaigning body’ and so is free to carry out political activity and act as a pressure group.
It aims to be a completely autonomous and transparent passenger-led organisation, which has no direct affiliation with any political parties.
