Sam Satyanadhan, SouthamptonHaving a publicly-owned transport network (railways and coaches) is essential to the welfare of a nation. The needs of the public should be the priority.
Paul Norman, Burgess HillIf it’s true that the major shareholders of the rail companies are the state-owned rail companies of Germany and Holland, using profit to subsidise their fares, it’s disgraceful.
George Lynes, AbingdonYou know it makes sense. Why subsidise train operating companies with taxpayers’ money so they can pay dividends to their shareholders?

Bring Back British Rail is coordinated from Glasgow by Ellie Harrison, with the help of a small network of volunteers around the UK.
The campaign operates as a ‘non-charitable campaigning body’ and so is free to carry out political activity and act as a pressure group.
It aims to be a completely autonomous and transparent passenger-led organisation, which has no direct affiliation with any political parties.
