Rail transport is worse now than it’s ever been – more expensive than the vast majority of the world and is going nowhere fast.
It should never have been sold off in the first place. It was a public utility, subsidised by the taxpayer, and then sold for private profit.
Public services are what tax is for. They are not there to be sold off on the cheap to make politicians and their buddies a quick buck. They’re ours, not theirs to sell.
An integrated and unified rail service is the sensible solution to put the railways back on the right track.

Privatizing has buggered up the electricity industry, the gas industry, the water industry and the waste disposal industry too. Some things should be considered a service and run to provide just that at an economic cost not a way of milking the end users.
