The people need to make sacrifices and boycott the rail network. Nothing will ever change until the companies that run the rails lose money. A few days would be enough.
When it is cheaper and quicker to drive, the point of rail transport goes out the window. If fares were dropped, more people would use the trains equalling more profit!
It would be great to have British Rail back.
Bring back the old branch lines as well.
SNCF do it right, BAHN do it right. It’s time to join them and end this mockery of free market economics supported by public subsidy.

Privatizing has buggered up the electricity industry, the gas industry, the water industry and the waste disposal industry too. Some things should be considered a service and run to provide just that at an economic cost not a way of milking the end users.
