Other countries run superb, state-run rail services. Why can’t we?
A national asset, which is for every citizen’s benefit, should belong to the nation, aiming to break even.
Something as important as our transport infrastructure shouldn’t be left to profit-making companies to run. The state should be in control and take any resulting profits.
Just look at Berlin at least. It shouldn’t be such a struggle to travel around the country and that value for our input shouldn’t be negotiable.
Railways should be in public ownership.

Privatizing has buggered up the electricity industry, the gas industry, the water industry and the waste disposal industry too. Some things should be considered a service and run to provide just that at an economic cost not a way of milking the end users.
