Public Ownership of Scotland’s Railway

20th September 2014 | News / Petition

Following the Referendum on Scottish Independence, Bring Back British Rail and its sister organisation Power For the People are launching two new campaigns for the Public Ownership of Scotland’s essential services and infrastructure with 38 Degrees:

Gordon Brown announced today, that the ‘new powers’ promised by the UK Government, will mean there can be “no enforced rail privatisation against the will of the people of Scotland”. Transport profiteers First Group’s franchise agreement comes to an end on 31 March 2015 and we shall demand that the Scottish Government reverses the injustices caused by privatisation and takes ScotRail back into Public Ownership now!

Public Ownership in Scotland could be the ‘easy win’, which would pave the way for the other parts of the UK to follow suit.

On Tuesday 19 August, we will find out how much our already over-priced train tickets will increase again in the New Year. Bring Back British Rail is joining forces with our friends at We Own It, Action For Rail and the new All on Board campaign to protest against these increases and to propose public ownership as the common-sense solution, which could help reduce our ticket prices by up to 20%.

Join us at stations all around the country and at our big demo in London at King’s Cross Station.

All on Board campaign

6th July 2014 | News

All On Board

Bring Back British Rail is very pleased to be supporting Compass’s new All on Board campaign for a publicly owned railway that is “efficient, affordable and good for the planet”, which was launched today in The Observer.

All on Board aims to “amplify the great campaign work that’s being done” by the likes of us at
Bring Back British Rail to “make clear the level of support for public rail”. The campaign will “create a broad movement in support of public rail that includes every organisation and person who sees the common sense in the common ownership of rail”.

Sounds great doesn’t it? We hope to work together closely in the run up to the General Election next year, to help them make it happen!

Protest Against Transport Profiteers Govia

12th June 2014 | Demonstration / News

TSGN: Super-Bad Franchise
Bring Back British Rail is supporting our friends at Action For Rail in their day of action this Tuesday 17 June against the merger of the Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern rail franchises into one ‘super-bad’ franchise run by Govia.

The private company Govia is a ‘joint venture’ between transport profiteers Go-Ahead and their partners in crime Keolis, which is 35% owned by French state railways. This is the perfect example of the absurdity of our privatised rail system, where our extortionate train fares are used to fund dividends for private shareholders and subsidise public transport overseas!

Protests are taking place throughout the South East, including a central action at London Victoria station moving on to Go-Ahead’s head office close by.

Tuesday 17 June 2014
7.45am – 8.45am
